November Call to Action — Stop the TPP!

The US and 11 other Pacific Rim nations managed to eke out an agreement at the recent round of negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The fact that this 1,000 page TPP trade scam is still secret isn’t going to stop Congress from taking an up or down vote in the near future (early 2016?). It is up to us to stop this agreement as well as others in the works such as T-TIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) and TiSA (Trade in Services Agreement). Together these secret trade deals represent an enormous corporate coup d’état and will have a negative impact on every aspect of our lives. Consistent with every “free trade agreement” of the past 20 years, TPP provides corporations with even more incentives to export our remaining good jobs to low wage countries. TPP, the largest and worst trade scam yet, will pit our workforce against exploited labor in such repressive regimes as Brunei, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

And even worse, this massive corporate power grab will circumvent domestic judicial systems and undermine national sovereignty. If passed, the TPP would establish a system of international tribunals allowing corporations to challenge the laws, regulations, and even court decisions of any member nation if they are deemed to adversely impact the corporation’s expected future profits. This “right to profit” doctrine is enforced through the “Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) mechanism of unelected, corporate run secret tribunals. Under this corporate supremacy mechanism, any domestic laws—such as those protecting health, food safety, labor, “Buy Union,” clean air and water—can be eviscerated.

We can stop this dreadful deal and it is time to get involved now!  It is critical that we show there is widespread opposition in the US. to this corporate attack on democracy itself. We need you to join the people’s uprising to resist corporate greed. Together we can Stop the TPP and this global corporate coup.
